Privacy Policy — OldambtApp
Last updated: 26 April 2026
OldambtApp is a free regional information app for the Oldambt and Pekela areas, providing local news, waste-collection reminders, and P2000 emergency alerts. This privacy policy explains what data the app collects, why, and what your rights are.
1. Who is responsible for your data
OldambtApp is operated by Sembricks, the controller of personal data within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR / AVG).
- Website: sembricks.com
- Privacy contact: privacy@sembricks.com
2. What data we collect
2.1 Automatically on first launch
- Device identifier — a random UUID generated on your device and stored in your device's secure storage. We use it to remember your notification preferences across app restarts. It is not linked to your name, email, phone number, or any other personal identifier.
- Push notification token — provided by Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) so we can deliver push notifications. The token can be revoked at any time by disabling notifications or uninstalling the app.
- Platform information — whether you are on Android or iOS, used to format notifications correctly.
2.2 Data you provide voluntarily
- Postcode and house number — only if you choose to use the waste-collection feature. We use this to look up your pickup schedule and never share it for any other purpose.
- Notification preferences — your choices about which news sources, reminders, and alerts you want to receive, including the time of day for waste-collection reminders.
2.3 What we do not collect
- No name, email address, or phone number
- No GPS location or precise location data
- No contacts, photos, or other files from your device
- No advertising identifiers
- No browsing or usage analytics
3. How we use your data
- To deliver the news, waste, and emergency-alert features you request
- To send push notifications you have opted in to
- To remember your preferences across sessions
- To diagnose and fix technical problems with the app or backend
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any commercial purpose beyond running the app.
4. Third parties
4.1 Service providers
- Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) — delivers push notifications to your device. Google receives the push token and the notification payload. See the Google Privacy Policy.
- Mijnafvalwijzer.nl — when you use the waste feature, your postcode and house number are sent to mijnafvalwijzer.nl to look up your pickup schedule.
4.2 News sources
News articles are fetched by our backend from the publishers (OldambtNu.nl, RTV Noord, Westerwolde Actueel, Gemeente Oldambt, Gemeente Pekela, Prachtig Pekela). These publishers do not receive any information about you — only our server contacts them.
4.3 P2000 emergency feed
Public P2000 emergency dispatch information for the Groningen region is fetched from publicly available feeds. No personal data is shared with these feeds.
5. Data retention
- Your device identifier, push token, and preferences are kept as long as the app is installed and notifications are enabled.
- If you uninstall the app or revoke notification permission, your push token becomes invalid; we automatically remove invalid tokens within 24 hours.
- You can request full deletion of all data linked to your device by emailing privacy@sembricks.com.
6. Where your data is stored
App data is stored on servers operated by Sembricks within the European Union. Push notifications are routed via Google's Firebase infrastructure, which may process data outside the EU under the standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission.
7. Your rights under the GDPR
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about your device
- Have inaccurate data corrected
- Have your data deleted
- Object to processing or restrict it
- Lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens)
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@sembricks.com with the device identifier shown in the app's Settings screen.
8. Children
OldambtApp is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has registered, contact us and we will delete the associated data.
9. Security
All communication between the app and our backend is encrypted with HTTPS. Sensitive identifiers on your device are stored using your operating system's secure storage (iOS Keychain or Android Keystore).
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app gains new features or when legal requirements change. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be communicated via an in-app notification.
